Use feedback you get from anyone as a guidepost, as a yardstick to say, Okay, this is a place where people are having a problem. They think this part is too slow, or it’s too talky, or maybe the characters are telling us too much exposition.
Don’t ignore feedback. Use it wisely, but also make sure you stand up for your own work.
“Okay, maybe I didn’t get you to understand what I was saying. Here’s what I really mean.”
My producers will often say to me, “Edward, what you just described to me, that’s amazing. It’s not on the page.”
My job is to then go back and put it on the page.
So take feedback, digest feedback. Answer the question. Solve the problem.
